
In its first outing at the Cottbus Film Festival, Elchin Musaoglu was the recipient of the IFG Inspiration Award for his moving drama, The 40th Door. Set in the director’s home city of Baku, Azerbaijan, it tells the story of a young boy, Rustam, whose father is murdered while working in Russia. Taking it upon himself to become the breadwinner, he soon experiences the tough side of life on the streets, encountering thieves, bullies and a society that appears to have forgotten how to care. In its simplicity, the film tells a universal tale of enduring hope through the bleakest of circumstances.
Elchin Musaoglu was born 11 July 1966 in Baku, Azerbaijan. He is a graduate of the Azerbaijan State Institute of Arts and Culture, Faculty of directors (1983-1989), the State Institute of Theatre and Arts, Faculty of directors, Moscow, Russia (1989-1990).
Elchin Musaoglu’s The 40th Door Elchin is also the founder of the Society of the Development of Documentary Films and Authorial Programs and author of more than 50 documentary films. He has participated in many significant international festivals with some of his notable films such as A Grain of Sand, and Glass Toys, which won the Golden Award at the Al Jazeera International Television Production Festival in 2006. In 2009 The 40th Door received the Gold Remi Award for Foreign films from the Houston International Film Festival and the East of the West award from the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival.
